We would first recommend reviewing this resource provided by TEA (TEA Teacher Assignment Chart).   It is very specific on what certification categories would be required for a teaching assignment.

Districts do have some flexibility in how they hire with certifications; however, there is little flexibility in the requirements for an internship.  The teaching assignment tied to the internship must match the subject and grade levels tied to the certificate category.

If you have a job/offer that does not match your certification category, there may be an opportunity to change the certification category route you are seeking.  Two major considerations would include the categories that you qualified for at admission and where you are in the program progression.

Per the requirements in Texas Administrative Code, if you did not meet the certification category that matches the job at admission, we are unable to honor that request.  If you are in an internship, we are unable to change the certification area.  Also, any certification changes would/could require additional coursework and testing.

It would be best to visit with a Program Advisor to talk out your options in the event that your job/offer and certification category do not match.
